SCIENCE FAIR:  Our Lum Scientists are heading to their labs!  The Science Fair will be held this week on  Friday April 28, 6-7:30 pm in the MPR. Students participating must turn-in their projects on Monday, April 24. We are so proud of our Lum Bears’ hard work!

SPRING FLING CARNIVAL & RAFFLE:  Less than 2 weeks til Lum’s 3rd annual Spring Fling Carnival — Saturday, May 6, 11 am-3 pm. Join us for the fun — games and prizes, music, food, and raffle drawing.  Special fun:  Dance Exercise Party with Miss Catina at 12:30 pm and Super Soaker Fun with Lum Staff all day!!  Spring Fling Raffle tickets are now available for purchase. Grand prize: $500 pre-paid Visa card! 2nd prize:  4 Disneyland Park Hopper tickets!  And much more.  Tickets cost $5 each, 5 tickets for only $20, 15 for $50, or 40 for $100. Don’t miss your chance to win some exciting prizes while supporting our school. WE NEED YOUR HELP!!:  EZ-up canopy tents are needed for Carnival.  If you can loan one to PTA, please email  PIZZA DELIVERY:  Who would like to help deliver the yummy pizza to the event?  We need someone to pick-up pizza from Little Caesar’s on Webster Street at 10:45 am and at 12:45 pm that day.  Email us!  ENTERTAINERS WELCOME:  Are you a musician, singer, dancer, magician, etc??  You are welcome to perform on the Spring Fling stage during the event.  We already have several Lum parents, grandparents, and staff lined up.  Email us if you are interested!

FIRE UP YOUR FEET:  Let’s get active Lum Bears!  Fire Up Your Feet is a great national program that encourages families to maintain healthy lifestyles with physical activity.  From April 15-May 15, all Lum students, staff, and their families (parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles) can register ANY and ALL physical activity at, and Lum will be in the running for a $5,000 award!!  In the past year, Lum was awarded nearly $3000 through this program!  Think of all the possiblities–walking/biking to and from school, exercise classes, the gym, afterschool activities for the kids, sports teams, and so much more!  Email for more info. Volunteers will be tracking our students’ activity during school hours (recess, PE, etc) but all activity outside of school can be tracked by YOU!

TEACHER & STAFF APPRECIATION MONTH:  Next week begins Teacher and Staff Appreciation Month! It is a great opportunity to show the teachers and staff our appreciation for all their hard work and devotion to our children.  It worked so well having a whole month of celebrating our teachers and staff last year, we’re doing it again!. We need your help to make this month a special time for our teachers.

  • MONDAY-FRIDAY 5/1-5: (everyone) Bring a flower (from home or store-bought or hand made) for your teacher.
  • TUESDAY 5/9: (all grades*) Potluck lunch for the Teachers! If you would like to bring a main/side/drinks, please sign up at the office.
  • TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY 5/16-5/17: (1st, 3RD & 5rd Grade) Appetizers, salads, fruits or Vegetables. Please bring some fabulous fruit/vegetables, or maybe a salad of some sort for the teachers.
  • TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY 5/23-5/24: (TK, Kindergarten, 2nd & 4th Grade) Baked goods or something sweet. Cookies, cakes, candies, chocolates.

Alameda Special Education Family Support Group Resource Fair 2017: Celebrating a day of community, sharing of resources and learning about community programs to support our students.  Saturday, May 6, 2017 10:00am – 2:00pm, at Ruby Bridges Elementary, 351 Jack London Ave, Alameda.  Keynote Speaker: 10:00am – 11:00am Kristin Wright, State Director of Special Education, California Department of Education. Register for Keynote by April 30th: Workshops:  11:15am – 12:30pm  All Stressed Out?: How to Care for You and the Family, Presented by Jennifer Yun, M.A., MFTI; 12:45pm – 2pm Dyslexia for an Afternoon: A Simulation Workshop.  

2017-2018 PTA board members and committee chairpersons are needed. If you would like to get more involved, email to find out more.
