Lum PTA’s annual Read-A-Thon is a wonderful opportunity for students to help raise money for their school while learning! For a two-week period following the winter break, students set a daily reading goal and then ask family, friends, and neighbors to sponsor them financially.  The more the student reads, the more money they earn for Lum.  Top reader and fundraiser are awarded special prizes including the honor of being Principal for the Day!  All participating students receive a custom Lum bookmark.

Fun activities are planned throughout the two-week Read-A-Thon. Guest readers from the community visit classrooms and share their favorite books.  In 2013, Mayor Marie Gilmore and former AUSD Superintendent Kirsten Vital read to Lum students. Guest readers have also included librarians from the Alameda Free Library, Alameda police officers, City Council members, Coast Guard officers, and our very own Lum parents.

Students and families are encouraged to donate gently-used books for all ages to the Book Drive, benefiting local non-profits.
